Dreamweaver Narratives Magazine
by The International Society for Maladaptive Daydreaming (ISMD)
Dreamweaver Narratives (DWN) is a scientific and creative magazine dedicated to bridging the gap between science and the lived experience of maladaptive daydreamers.
Issue One of the magazine includes research summaries, interviews, polls, mental health tips, essays, short fiction, poetry, and art. All the written content underwent developmental editing, copy editing, and proofreading phases.
My Contributions:
• Provided a second set of eyes on structural edits.
Line edited, improving tone, organization, clarity, brevity, and flow for writers of varying skill levels and English proficiencies. This occasionally included discussion with writers and providing suggested paragraph rewrites.
Copyedited each article, polishing word usage, grammar, and syntax
Fact-checked each article and located missing sources when needed.
Proofread the entire magazine to ensure every word and name was spelled correctly, every paragraph formatted properly, all bold and italic characters accounted for, and every punctuation, space, and indent in its proper place.
• Created and continue to maintain DWN’s
style sheet.
• Continue to be part of the
editorial team responsible for goals, design, content curation, and scheduling.
• Additionally, because I have a background in art and design, I provided the
graphic design and formatting for the magazine using InDesign and Photoshop.
All of this work led to publishing our inaugural issue on time (despite a tight deadline), adding value to ISMD members’ paid subscriptions. We are now gathering what we learned and beginning the process for the second issue.
I also support the ISMD by occasionally copyediting and writing website articles and newsletters.
Style Sheet
Here is a snapshot of the style sheet I created for Dreamweaver Narratives, defining preferences for the publication’s writing style, formatting, editing, and preferred spellings.
It includes the magazine’s goals and audience sketch.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Good writing can only go so far. Websites need to consider SEO to ensure their content reaches readers.
I’ve used Semrush, Ahrefs, Google Trends, and Google Search Console to research and track keywords for landing pages and articles.
Here is a landing page I optimized with local keywords and a sample blog calendar based on ones I maintained for a dental marketing firm.
Writing & Editing Tips
My Instagram isn’t marketing. It’s a portfolio of bite-sized writing and editing samples.
